Skills Upgrading & Readiness Program (SURP)

SURP is a FREE program which provides learner-centred, task-based upgrading opportunities for adults preparing for five goal paths: Employment, Apprenticeship, Secondary School Credit (Grade 12), Post-Secondary Education and Independence. All SURP services are free.

SURP OVERVIEW
 

Learners can work at their own pace on goal-directed activities that improve their ability to:

· Find and Use Information (in text, documents and videos);

· Communicate Ideas and Information (with other people, in writing, on documents, creatively);

· Understand and Use Numbers (use measures and manage money, time and/or information);

· Use Digital Technology (computers, internet, mobile apps);

· Manage Learning, and Engage with Others (work in a team, resolve conflict).

SURP also assesses and assists clients who did not finish high school and are interested in earning their General Education Diploma (GED).

Come in for free pre-GED testing to  determine which steps you need to take.

  • Initial contact, intake, assessment, learners' questions and general inquiries should occur at a time when a practitioner is scheduled to be in the classroom or by appointment.
  • SURP Classrooms are also open to learners for Independent Study purposes most weekdays between 9 am – 4 pm.
  • Training Support – Funds are available to support eligible learners with transportation and childcare needs.
  • Holiday Breaks - SURP Classrooms may close or offer decreased hours in summer months and over Christmas.
